The Military Council reported that the two countries’ ministerial-level officials discussed the possibility of visa-free travel between Russia and Myanmar at the 5th International Tourism Forum held in Moscow, Russia.

The Military Council announced the discussions in a state-run newspaper on June 12.

The forum will be accompanied by a six-day tourism exhibition from June 10 to 15, and a delegation led by Union Minister U Kyaw Soe Win of the Military Council is attending the event.

The Military Council said that in addition to jointly participating in bilateral tourism exhibitions to promote Myanmar-Russia tourism, including visa-free travel, they also discussed increasing the number of Russian tourists visiting Myanmar.

Meanwhile, Beijing, which has strong ties with the military council, is considering granting long-term visas to family members of Myanmar businessmen in China starting June 9, allowing them to stay in the country for six months to five years, the Chinese embassy in Yangon said.
